The leader of the German opposition will arrive in Kyiv

Chancellor Scholz has not yet decided on such a visit.

On Monday, May 2, Friedrich Merz, leader of Germany's main opposition Christian Democratic Union, will pay a visit to Kyiv. This was reported by Tagesspiegel, citing sources in the party and the security service of Germany.

“CDU leader Friedrich Merz will go to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Monday. Most recently, Greens politician Anton Gofreiter, FDP MP Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann and SPD politician Michael Roth visited Ukraine, ”the newspaper writes.

Opposition spokesman Jakob Schrott later confirmed the plans for the trip, without giving a date: “Friedrich Merz is indeed planning a trip to Ukraine.”

and to accept specific requests for support from Ukrainian interlocutors to Germany, which will be presented to the government later.

It will be recalled that Kyiv recently rejected an application for a visit by German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier because of his support for Putin and his prejudice against Ukraine, and at the same time invited to Ukraine the visit of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who declined the invitation.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has even been threatened with resignation due to his unstable position on heavy arms supplies to Ukraine. In particular, he personally deleted heavy weapons from the supply plans, and stated that he would not agree to this.
