The Le Pen party has chosen a new leader

Jordan Bardella will lead the French far-right.

The new leader of the far-right French party National unity” (former “National Front”) became Jordan Bardella. In the internal party elections, he received 85% of the vote.

Bardella's opponent, the mayor of Perpignan Louis Allot, received 53% of the vote. He will become the new deputy leader of the party.

The long-time leader of the party Marine Le Pen previously announced her resignation. The politician's decision was influenced by the loss in the presidential election to the current president of France Emmanuel Macron.

Under the leadership of Le Pen, the far-right made gains in the parliamentary elections, and now she plans to to concentrate on leading the deputies of her party in the parliament.

In the election of the successor, Marine Le Pen did not openly express support for any of the candidates, but it is generally believed that she still preferred Bardella's candidacy. He will be the first leader of the party who is not related to the Le Pen family (the party was founded by Jean-Marie Le Pen).

The change of party leader will not affect its ideological future, as both candidates have promised to continue the initiative Le Pen.

The politician repeatedly stated the need to “negotiate with Russia”, called the occupied Ukrainian Crimea “Russian”, and Ukraine – “a country that is part of the sphere of interests of the Russian Federation”. The politician criticized Western institutions and promised to “withdraw France from NATO” in case of victory in the presidential elections.
