Consideration of the issue took place with desperate resistance from Russian officials.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has decided to assist and support Ukraine in rebuilding its telecommunications sector. This was reported by the State Special Service.
“This decision opens up opportunities for ITU to take real steps to restore the telecommunications infrastructure that was destroyed or damaged as a result of Russia's war against Ukraine,” the statement said.
It is noted that the consideration of this issue took place with desperate resistance from the representatives of Russia.
“It was a really difficult vote. The representatives of the occupiers in ITU used all possible means and procedural clues to stop or at least delay the decision. However, everyone sees and understands who Russia is and what the goal of the occupying forces in Ukraine is. Thank you to each representative. ITU member states that supported this decision, “said Yuri Shchigol, head of the service.
A number of measures have been proposed to implement the decision:
- monitoring Ukraine's needs in the field of telecommunications and preparing proposals for effective technical assistance;
- assessment of the impact of the war in Ukraine on ITU programs and activities in the region;
- proper mobilization of financial and human resources, including from the internal budget and the Information and Communication Technology Development Fund.
We will remind, only TV towers in Ukraine occupiers destroyed or damaged about ten. In particular, in Kiev, Kharkov, Exactly, Vinnytsia, Lutsk, Korosten, Izyum, Belopole, Slavyansk.
