Ukraine informed the IAEA about the intensity of the shelling of the ZNPP territory.

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi stated that , which will send specialists to the ZNPP within the next few days, if the current negotiations are successful. This is stated in his statement published on the evening of August 23.

“I continue to consult very actively and intensively with all parties so that this vital IAEA mission can be carried out without further delay. The IAEA presence will help stabilize the nuclear safety and security situation at the site and reduce the risk of a major nuclear accident in Europe. The mission is expected to will take place in the next few days if the current negotiations are successful,” the statement said.

According to him, Ukraine informed the IAEA that as a result of shelling on Saturday (August 20) and Sunday (August 21), the infrastructure of the ZNPP, including the laboratory and chemical facilities, was damaged. In addition, Ukraine said that shelling on Monday (August 22) damaged transformers at a nearby thermal power station, causing the power line connecting that station to the ZANP to be shut down for several hours, after which it was restored later that same day. day.

In addition to the restored backup line to the CHPP, the ZANP has one operational transmission line connecting it to a network of four such lines. A reliable external power supply from the grid is essential for ensuring nuclear safety. This requirement is one of the seven mandatory pillars of nuclear and physical nuclear security that the Director General outlined at the beginning of the conflict.

Ukraine has separately informed the IAEA that ten of the country's 15 nuclear power reactors are currently connected to the grid, including two at the ZANP, three at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), three at the Yuzhno-Ukrainian NPP and two at the Khmelnytsky NPP.

At a press conference following the results of the summit of the international Crimean platform in Kyiv, President Zelenskyi announced that Ukraine is ready to provide a corridor for the arrival of the UN and IAEA mission to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is under the occupation of Russian troops.
