The Senate of America must agree on the wording of the bill.
The bill, which provides for the suspension of traditional trade relations with Russia, is currently facing difficulties in the US Senate. This was reported by The Hill.
“The confrontation with Senator Rand Paul over the wording of the sanctions included in the bill passed by the House (US House of Representatives – ed.) To end normal trade relations with Russia, shattered hopes for its speedy adoption,” the newspaper said.
The adoption of the bill in the Senate may take several weeks.
Senator Paul is demanding that his wording “related to sanctions for human rights violations” be added to the bill.
It is specified that initially the American “Magnitsky Global Act”, on the basis of which sanctions are imposed, was aimed at “gross violations of human rights.” At the same time, the bill on tightening trade norms with the Russian Federation assumes that the term “gross” in the “Magnitsky Global Act” will be replaced by “serious”. Paul wants the bill to include wording that restores the original terminology, and proposes to spell out what specifically refers to “gross human rights violations.” Otherwise, he threatens to delay the adoption of the bill.
