The head of the energy company Eni believes that Italy will be able to survive the winter without Russian gas

Reserves in the country's gas storage facilities are 54% full.

Italy could survive the winter without Russian gas if Russia suspends supplies altogether. According to Eni CEO Claudio Descalci, gas supply in Italy currently exceeds demand, and storage is ready for the winter, according to AdnKronos.

He added that Italy now needs about 30 million cubic meters of Russian gas per day. Reserves in the country's gas storage facilities are 54% full and it is necessary to increase the figure to 70-80% by October to cover peak loads.

Deskalci said that if Russia cut gas supplies by 100% now, Italy could still “survive the winter.”

If they cut supplies now, we would not be ready. We could be ready in the autumn-winter of 2022-2023. We need to complete all the agreements we have established over the last 4-5 months, “said the company's director.

“However, even if a 100% reduction in supplies occurs, the warehouses are already 54% full. We need to further boost gas supplies from other countries we are working on, so there will probably be a high alert and some restrictions, but in any case we have diversification that will allow us to spend the winter, that's for sure. It is better to have a little more, but if it were not for that, with the decisive actions of the government now, I think we will be able to survive the winter, “Deskalci assured.

According to him, in Europe on the energy front There are different interests that can lead to differences, so the policy must be smart enough to ensure that countries find common ground during the crisis. “

Earlier it was reported that Italy may impose a state of emergency on gas consumption due to restrictions on fuel supplies from the Russian Federation.

According to Reuters, if the situation does not change in the near future and Russia will continue to restrict gas supplies to Italy, and Rome will have to take drastic measures to save energy.
