Due to the lack of heating in winter, 200,000 residents are evacuated from the region.
Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk on Saturday warned that residents of unoccupied areas of Donetsk region will face serious heating problems this winter due to extensive destruction of gas pipelines during the war. She called for the mandatory evacuation of residents of the region before the onset of cold weather.
According to Vereshchuk, at least 200-220 thousand local residents will have to be evacuated from Donetsk region. On July 29, the government created a coordination headquarters that will deal with the organization of the evacuation.
“There is absolutely no gas supply in Donetsk region, they repaired all the gas furnaces that could be repaired. But, unfortunately, the enemy destroys again and again everything that could warm people in winter. There is no proper electricity supply. In a word, heat in Donetsk region is there will be no winter period. Article 33 of the Code on Civil Protection of the Population speaks of such a form of evacuation as mandatory. I believe that this is the duty of every adult member of the family. There are 52 thousand children in the Donetsk region, they must be evacuated, you can't expose them to mortal danger in the winter without heat, light, without the possibility to warm up,” Vereshchuk said on the air of the telethon.
The vice-prime minister noted that if a person refuses to evacuate, he will need to sign a waiver stating that he is aware of the consequences and bears personal responsibility for his life.
According to her, everyone who evacuates will help make IDP certificates and issue cash payments.
“We already have this plan and, most importantly, an understanding of where people will be resettled, to which regions, where their children will study. I ask for one thing: evacuate now. There are corridors, my personal control, we will resettle people, they will not be without heat and our attention,” Vereshchuk promised.
The Zaporizhia region, 65% of which does not have gas supply, may be the next to be evacuated, she added.
