The government expects a new wave of relocation of Ukrainians to the western regions

More than 500,000 residents will leave the eastern regions before winter.

The government predicts that more than 500 thousand people will move from the eastern regions to the western regions with the onset of cold weather, since the Zaporizhia region, Melitopol, Energodar and other cities are actually cut off from gas supply. This means that it is impossible to restore heat supply to these cities. This was announced by the Minister of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk, during a telethon.

According to her, there are currently 7 million internally displaced persons in Ukraine, and only 4.5 million are registered as IDPs.

The minister noted that the government intends to simplify tender procurement to provide heat to displaced persons.

“We are simplifying the issue of tender procurement for the reconstruction of such dormitories, insulation, energy audits and everything that is needed so that people lived in warmth in the winter. The local government cannot cope on its own – this is the reserve fund of our budget”.

According to her, 17.2 billion hryvnias have already been spent from the reserve fund, but these funds are not enough, so the government will seek help from international partners – UNICEF, the UN, the International Organization for Migration and others.

Also. Vereshchuk reacted to the complaints of the displaced persons that they are threatened to be evicted from the dormitories, because the students will be settled there before the new school year. She assured that it is illegal to evict IDPs, so the local authorities should look for other ways to resettle people.

As reported, in the period from July 7 to 13, the hotlines of the Ministry of Reintegration received 312 signals that some educational institutions want to evict IDPs.
