Madeleine Albright, the first female Secretary of State, has died in the United States. This was reported by Politico.
“The cause of death was cancer, her family said in a statement, adding that Albright was surrounded by family and friends,” the statement said.
Albright served as US Secretary of State from 1997 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton. Prior to joining the State Department, Albright was the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
She called for NATO enlargement , insisted on the Alliance's entry into the war in the Balkans to stop genocide and ethnic cleansing, and sought to reduce the spread of nuclear weapons around the world.
