Doctors do not disclose the area in which the patient was found.

The first case of smallpox was confirmed in Ukraine monkeys. This was reported by the Ministry of Health on September 15.

The disease was confirmed thanks to a specific PCR study. The area of registration of the case is not disclosed in order to preserve the comfort of the patient.

As reported by the Ministry of Health, despite the mild course of the disease, the patient, whose symptoms are only high temperature and body rash, was hospitalized.

The epidemiological case is currently being investigated by doctors.

The patient claims that he did not have contact with monkeypox patients and did not travel abroad.

“Nevertheless, the appearance of disease symptoms and the preliminary results of epidemiological anamnesis indicate that that the patient was infected in one of the country's major cities,” the Ministry reported.

We will remind you that monkeypox is a double-stranded DNA virus of the same genus as smallpox. It was discovered in the 1950s in Africa. It infects mainly the inhabitants of the African continent. Despite its name, the virus is more common in rodents than in monkeys. According to research, there are two main types of monkeypox: one common in West Africa and the other in the Congo River Basin. More deaths are seen from the latter.

In July, Spain reported its first death after contracting monkeypox, the first fatal case in Europe.

Previously, the WHO said who could suffer from monkeypox the most. You can learn more about the disease from the material of ZN.UA.
