The parties agreed to increase the volume of gas supplies against the background of the EU's efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian gas.
The European Union signed an agreement on doubling natural gas imports from Azerbaijan, reported President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
The carrying capacity of the Southern gas transport corridor should increase from 8.1 billion to 12 billion cubic meters of gas, and after a few years – to 20 billion.
Leyen stressed that the supply of gas from Russia to Europe is unreliable, so the EU decided to turn to “more reliable suppliers”, one of which is Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan has a tremendous potential in renewable energy.
