The European Union will continue to work on sanctions against Russia

The EU reiterated its strong support for Ukraine.

The EU will continue to work on sanctions against Russia to stop Russia's war against Ukraine. This is evidenced by the conclusions of the EU summit.

“The adoption of the sixth package of EU sanctions further increases the pressure on Russia to end the war against Ukraine. Work on sanctions will continue, including to strengthen enforcement and prevent circumvention. The European Council calls on all countries to join the EU sanctions, in particular the candidate countries, “the conclusions read.

EU leaders believe it is important to “quickly complete work on the European Council's decision to include violations of Union restrictive measures in the EU's list of crimes.”

It is also noted that during the summit the European Council discussed Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine its dimensions.

“The European Council reiterates its strong support for Ukraine and that the EU will continue to give strong support to Ukraine's overall economic, military, social and financial stability, including humanitarian assistance,” the statement said.

It also states that the European Council strongly condemns Russia's indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure and calls on Russia to withdraw all its troops and equipment from Ukraine immediately within its internationally recognized borders.

“International humanitarian law must be respected, including the treatment of prisoners of war. Ukrainians, including children forcibly deported to Russia, must be allowed to return safely immediately. Russia, Belarus and all those responsible for war crimes and other heinous crimes will be held accountable for their actions under international law, “the summit concluded.

It is also noted that the EU remains committed to providing further military support to help Ukraine exercise its inalienable right to self-defense against Russian aggression and to protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty. To this end, the European Council calls for further work to increase military support as soon as possible.

In addition, the EU blamed Russia for the food crisis.

“Russia, using food in the war against Ukraine, is solely responsible for the global food security crisis it has provoked. The European Council calls on Russia to immediately stop the attack on agricultural facilities and the export of grain crops, as well as to unblock the Black Sea, in particular the port of Odessa, to allow grain exports and commercial shipping operations. The European Council emphasizes that EU sanctions against Russia allow for the free flow of agricultural and food products and the delivery of humanitarian aid, “the statement said.

Earlier it was reported that at the summit, EU leaders unanimously granted Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union. Moldova has received a similar status.

The decision on the next steps of Ukraine and Moldova's accession to the EU will be made after these countries meet all the conditions. At the same time, our state must submit the first report on the assessment of compliance with the conditions by the end of this year.
