The European Parliament has called for Ukraine to be granted EU candidate status

Metsola also called on European leaders not to weaken aid to Ukraine.

The President of the European Parliament Robert Metzol called on European leaders to grant Ukraine EU candidate status , Interfax reports. According to her, if this does not happen, Kyiv will seek help outside the union.

“What we have achieved so far is unprecedented, we have held together and responded (to the crisis – ed.) With unity, which surprised even the fiercest cynics,” Metsola said during a speech at the EU summit.

Metsola stressed the strong response of EU citizens to the difficulties of Ukrainians. She recalled how since the first days of the war, European countries have “opened their homes and the hearts of 6 million Ukrainians.”

The President of the European Parliament also expressed concern that under the pressure of Russian propaganda and high prices the situation may change, so the European Union must remain steadfast and lead in long-term assistance to Ukraine.

“Candidate status will give Ukraine hope, open the door for it to participate in various programs, give space and time for reforms, “Metsola said.

” What Ukraine needs now is this is hope and prospects, otherwise we will force Kyiv to look for (support – ed.) elsewhere, “Metsola warned.
