The EU plans to abandon gas imports from Russia by 2027 – Austrian Energy Minister

The European Commission has set a goal for EU countries to give up Russian gas.

The European Union plans to abandon supplies gas from Russia by 2027. Austria considers this goal very ambitious. This was stated in an interview with Kurier by the Minister of Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Transport, Innovation and Technology of Austria Leonore Hewessler.

According to Hewessler, the European Commission has set a goal for EU countries to abandon gas imports from Russia by 2027.

“This is a very ambitious goal. It concerns all member states, it will be possible to achieve it by joint work, “the minister said.

Hewessler also added that in order to abandon Russian gas, it is necessary to gradually reduce its consumption, switch to heat pumps and geothermal energy, where possible. It is also important to start producing biogas and renewable hydrogen and find other suppliers.
