The EU is working on a new package of sanctions against Russia, but again they will not affect energy. This was stated by EU Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni.
Mr. Gentiloni spoke about the preparation of sanctions at Ambrosetti's annual forum in Italy.
“We are working on additional sanctions packages, but I will clarify: they do not include the energy sector at the moment. First of all, we are working to limit the ability to circumvent sanctions, “the diplomat said.
It will be recalled that Western countries have begun imposing sanctions in response to the military operation in Ukraine announced by Vladimir Putin on February 24. The EU has already adopted four packages of sanctions.
At the same time, it is observed in the European Union split in the embargo on Russian oil, gas and coal . Thus, the ban on Russian oil supplies is blocked by Germany and the Netherlands .
As a result, EU foreign ministers have not yet been able to agree on sanctions against Russia's energy sector over its invasion of Ukraine.
