In turn, the Kremlin hopes that gas blackmail and a harsh winter will help increase the number of “allies” in the war against Ukraine.
Recently, Russia stopped supplying gas to Europe through the Nord Stream pipelineand despite promises to launch it on Saturday, it did not. This became another manifestation of energy blackmail, which the Kremlin has been engaged in since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Nevertheless, the EU is ready to completely stop the supply of Russian gas and is actively working to fill fuel storage facilities before the start of the upcoming heating season. This was stated by the European Union Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni, reports NDTV.
“We are well prepared to oppose Russia's extreme use of gas blackmail. We are not afraid of Putin's decisions. Of course, we ask the Russians to abide by the contracts, but if they don't, we are ready to react,” the official said.
According to Gentiloni, gas reserves in the European Union are currently around 80 percent thanks to diversification of supplies, although the situation varies from country to country.
