The Czech Republic froze hundreds of millions of kroons in Russian assets

Attempts to circumvent sanctions are monitored and punished.

Чехия заморозила активы россиян на сотни миллионов крон

The Czech Republic has frozen the assets of Russian citizens and companies subject to EU sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation following the invasion of Ukraine. We are talking about the amount of hundreds of millions of crowns. This was reported by European Truth with reference to Prime Minister Peter Fial on Czech television.

Fiala noted that the freezing of assets was difficult because they are often not isolated, but are part of large companies.

“We are determined, we have frozen the assets of Russian oligarchs for hundreds of millions of crowns … And we will continue to do so,” he said.

However, according to the Prime Minister, it will be necessary to change the laws to make the procedure faster and more efficient.

In the past, President Milos Zeman was opposed to sanctions, but after Russia's attack on Ukraine, he called for the toughest possible measures against the Kremlin. Commenting on this change in the views of the head of state, Fiala only stated that he was glad that the political representation of the Czech Republic in this extreme situation was expressed in one voice.

The Financial Analysis Office, which is responsible for enforcing sanctions in the Czech Republic, has announced that it has made several attempts to circumvent them. Some companies tried to transfer tens of millions of kroons, so the office froze their accounts and opened a criminal case. The police are currently in charge.

Earlier it became known that Switzerland also froze Russian assets worth about 5.75 billion Swiss francs or $ 6.17 billion, which includes a number of real estate.
