The authors of the new textbook for 5th-graders under the NUSH program are independently looking for money for printing

The printing of textbooks is complicated not only by financial problems due to the war, but also by the production facilities destroyed by Russia.

Children who will enter the 5th grade this year will study according to the new program (“New Ukrainian School” reform, “NUSH”). There are still no printed textbooks for this program in connection with the war (only electronic versions will be available). Among the teachers, there are those who dared to collect money for printing textbooks on their own, because it will be much more convenient for children to do so (reading from the small screens of smartphones is inconvenient, and some children do not have gadgets at all). The story of two such teachers was told by Oksana Onishchenko in the article “Uchitelsky “bairaktary”: where to find funds for textbooks“. school libraries, it is impossible to use, because from this academic year in the 5th grades, the reform of NUS begins. And this means: new education standards, new programs, and, accordingly, new textbooks,” the article says.

Two authors – Anastasia Onatiy and Taras Tkachuk – wrote a textbook on the Ukrainian language for the 5th grade, which became one of the winners of the All-Ukrainian textbook competition. This is their first victory. Both authors are teachers and philological scientists. Anastasia is a teacher at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy National University, Taras is a teacher at the Vinnytsia Academy of Continuing Education. They decided not to wait, but to look for opportunities to print the textbook. Currently, Taras Tkachuk defends Ukraine in the ranks of the Armed Forces, but transfers part of his salary to the printing of the textbook he wrote before the war.

At first Anastasia and Taras asked for support from foreign donors. For this purpose, a page was created on Splynokost. “It is quite difficult for Ukrainians to make donations,” explains the author of the textbook. – They will always give you money anyway. It seemed to us that help from foreigners is a more realistic story, because it is one thing to collect 70,000 dollars with donations of 100 dollars, and another – 100 hryvnias.”

In order to attract as many people as possible, Anastasia joined Facebook groups of Ukrainians abroad and posted there about fundraising for a textbook.

“Every night I wrote 10-15 announcements that we are such and such, here is our photo, here is our textbook, here we collect funds for printing, if anyone has a desire, then support us,” she recalls.

But it was not possible to collect a significant amount.

“Not everyone will agree to transfer funds to strangers. It's one thing when well-known volunteers or a large charitable foundation with a strong reputation ask for money, and they ask for things necessary for the Armed Forces, and it's quite another – two Ukrainian philologists with their textbook,” the article says.

< p>A significant part of the help was obtained from the teachers themselves, who will teach according to this textbook. They communicate in a Facebook group, which the authors of the textbook created during the textbook competition stage .

Fundraising is still ongoing. You can help children get a new textbook on the Ukrainian language using the following details (the recipient is Onatiy Anastasia Vitaliyivna):
