Switzerland has joined the seventh package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation, including an embargo on Russian gold

The country also added 54 more persons and 9 organizations to the sanctions list.

Switzerland joined the seventh package of sanctions EU against Russia, including embargo on Russian gold. The country also froze Sberbank's assets, and it is now prohibited from providing funds, economic resources and technical services. The new restrictions also apply to subsidiaries of Sberbank. This is reported on the website of the Federal Council.

It is noted that the new measures primarily concern the ban on the purchase, import or transportation of Russian gold and its products. Services related to these goods are also prohibited.

“Switzerland aims to overcome the global food and energy crisis. The Federal Council notes that none of the measures against Russia are aimed at trade in agricultural or food products between third countries and the Russian Federation. To avoid interruptions in payment channels, the Federal Council made two new exceptions for operations related to agricultural products and oil supplies to third countries, as the EU did,” the message reads.

The country also added 54 more persons and 9 organizations to the sanctions list. Thus, the list of persons and organizations against which Switzerland has imposed sanctions fully corresponds to the EU list.

Within the new package of sanctions, the EU made various adjustments to already existing measures. Switzerland will also make appropriate changes to the Decree on measures in connection with the situation in Ukraine. These technical changes will enter into force later.
