Russia uses oil and gas as a tool to pursue its imperialist interests
The Slovak government will continue to pay for Russian gas in euros, as stipulated in the contract, said Prime Minister Edward Heger.
He stressed that Russia uses oil and gas as a tool to pursue its imperialist interests, culminating in an attack on Ukraine and war crimes.
“Slovensky plynarensky průmysl (Slovak gas industry) has signed a long-term contract with Russia's Gazprom, and payments for purchased gas will be made in euros according to agreed rules and recommendations of the European Commission,” – wrote Heger on Facebook.
Slovensky plynarensky průmysl is the country's largest oil refining company.
The Prime Minister also said on Twitter that Slovakia and the EU will accelerate avoiding gas dependence on Russia.
🇷🇺 wrongly believes it's having big time cutting our #EU partners 🇵🇱🇧🇬 from its #gas as they paid according to the rules – in #Euro, not as President #Putin wishes, in #Ruble. We’ll stand #united as 🇪🇺 against this #blackmail. And we'll speed up phasing out from 🇷🇺 dependency.

It was previously reported that Russia will stop exporting gas to Poland and Bulgaria by the end of this month. Despite the current agreements, suppliers from Russia have announced that they will stop cooperating with buyer countries on April 27.
