Serbia can do without Russian energy carriers – Vučić

The president of the Balkan country made a rather unexpected statement.

Serbia, from the very beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, supported the Kremlin authorities and was one of those countries that spoke against the introduction of economic sanctions by the EU. Despite this, Belgrade is ready to abandon Russian energy carriers and find a replacement for them in other countries. This was unexpectedly announced by the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, Reuters reports.

According to the politician, his state is sufficiently secure and stable from a financial point of view to find a replacement for Russian gas, oil and coal on other continents.

“We will take oil to Iraq. I will try to negotiate with Venezuela. We will buy from anywhere. We are not picky,” Vucic said.

In addition, he declared that the Serbs “must pay the price of the war on European soil “, but the rejection of Russian energy carriers will not affect the standard of living of the population of his country, because the financial system of Serbia is strong enough to survive such a test.
