Russians plan to ban buying real estate in the EU

The ban could be included in the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia.

The European Union plans to ban Russians from buying European real estate, according to Bloomberg .

The European Commission's proposal calls for the termination of real estate agreements with Russian citizens, residents and legal entities, prohibiting the sale or transfer, directly or indirectly, of “ownership of real estate located in the EU or shares in collective investment companies that provide access to such real estate. “

The ban applies to Russians who are not EU citizens and do not have a residence permit in EU member states. This does not apply to those who have citizenship or a residence permit in the European Economic Area or Switzerland.

The plan must be approved by EU member states. One week before it takes effect, it may still be amended.
