Russian literature is not as talented as it is described – why change the program of foreign literature

Twenty-one Russian authors are offered to Ukrainian students for study.

The share of Russian authors in the program of foreign literature for students Ukrainian schools are much higher than the share of poets and writers from other countries, writes in her article for ZN.UA MP Natalia Pipa.

“Every year, the program on foreign literature studies Russian authors, to a greater or lesser extent. For example, of the seven classic poets of the first half of the 20th century, four are Russians. And it cannot be said that their works are much more talented than Polish or Czech ones. However, they traditionally do not disappear from school curricula, “she said.

In general, the school curriculum in foreign literature includes twenty-one authors, although some of them are optional. At the same time, in Russia, Ukrainian authors are not studied at all in the program of foreign literature.

Pippa notes that in the 5th grade instead of Pushkin's “The Tale of the Dead Princess and the Seven Heroes” you can study the tales of Charles Perrault, in the 6th grade you can study the works of Jean de Lafontaine instead of Krylov's fables, and modernism can be viewed through the lens of Camus instead of Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita.

“Why don't we need Russian authors in the Ukrainian program? First, anything Russian in Ukraine is a danger to us. Secondly, Russian literature is not as talented as Russians describe it. You can study Byron, not Pushkin, improve your erudition and be in a global context. Without any loss of knowledge, “the author notes.

Note that in addition to the issue of Russian literature in Ukrainian society raised the issue of study Russian language in schools. According to the educational ombudsman Sergei Gorbachev, Russian will be taught in schools by those for whom it is native. And only as a variable component.
