Until recently, Gazprom and Novatek felt respected members of this global organization.
The International Gas Union (IGU), of which Russia has two major Russian gas companies, Gazprom and Novatek, has suspended all participation of these companies in its activities. This was reported by the Russian news agency Interfax with reference to a representative of the organizing committee of the International Gas Congress (IGC).
The IHC includes 160 gas industry associations and corporations, which make up more than 95% of the global gas market. Russia, as the successor to the USSR, has been a full member of the ISS since 1957.
It is also reported that, due to the exclusion, Russia will not be able to participate in congressional meetings.
In particular, the Korean Gas Union, which will host the IGC in 2022, “will not be able to implement further participation of Russian actors in the IGC-2022: neither for speeches nor for participation of delegations, nor for participation in an exhibition or sponsorship “. Russia's largest gas players, Gazprom and NOVATEK, have repeatedly participated in the IGC. Their leaders, Alexei Miller and Leonid Michelson, have previously been appointed speakers at the Korean Congress.
According to Gazprom, the company planned to spend 137 million rubles on the construction of a stand at an exhibition in the Korean city of Daegu. Novatek also planned to build his own stand at the IGC. The International Gas Union (IPU) is a non-profit international organization that unites gas associations and companies from five continents.
