According to the results of the identification, it has been established that these are sea mines, which at the beginning of 2022 were not registered with the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ”the ministry said.
The Russian FSB said on March 19 that Ukrainian sea mines planted on the approaches to the ports of Odessa, Ochakov, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny were detached from the bottom anchors and “moved freely (drifted) in the western part of the Black Sea.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine clarified that only the Russian Federation is responsible for the possible consequences.
“Responsibility for the use of drifting mines, as well as their unpredictable consequences lies solely with the Russian Federation and its naval forces,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry insists.
