The organizer of “Eurovision” denied Ukraine the right to hold the contest in 2023. In fact, Russia deprived Ukraine of this opportunity.
On June 17, the European Language Union announced that in In 2023, Ukraine will not be able to host Eurovision . This is traditionally won by the winner of the previous competition. The main reason for the refusal, the founder said the problem with security. It is not necessary to count on the fact that the war waged by Russia against Ukraine will end in the near future. So the sensation did not happen, the author writes, DW author Andriy Brenner believes.

For almost four months of war, the whole world could see the “humanity” of high-precision Russian weapons, which are considered military infrastructure theaters and hospitals, homes and schools, kindergartens and shopping malls.
Some may object: Ukraine already hosted Eurovision in 2017, when the war was going on in the east of the country. Then the situation was different. Fighting took place only in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Russian troops did not officially take part in them. The rest of Ukraine was not shelled. However, even then, security was a priority. For this purpose, on May 13, the International Exhibition Center in Kyiv, where the final of “Eurovision-2017” was held, was surrounded by the Ukrainian military around the perimeter.
In addition, the author notes a few more specific conditions. First, the availability of a suitable arena. It must be covered, spacious, and meet technical standards for such events. Five years ago, it was difficult to upgrade the International Exhibition Center in Kyiv to the required level. Since then, the reconstruction of concert venues in Ukrainian cities has not been carried out.
It is the big cities, which have enough hotel seats for participants, technical staff, spectators and journalists, as well as international airports, that are considered candidates for Eurovision. But many airports in Ukraine became the target of Russian shelling, and air service was disrupted. And the Ukrainian Railways, which would seem impossible in this war, is now more important than transporting the Eurovision nomadic nonsense.
A competition of this level is not a short-term visit of foreign politicians to Kyiv. It takes almost a year to plan. The redesigned stage for each Eurovision is built a month before the final, and rehearsals begin two weeks before the final show. Ukraine would probably cope with these tasks. If there was no war.
That is why Ukrainians should not take offense at the European Language Union, which has denied them the right to host Eurovision for the third time. The executive producer of the competition, Martin Esterdahl, was sincerely impressed by the success of the Kalush Orchestra when he presented a folder with a catalog of requirements for the show to the Ukrainian delegation at a press conference in Turin. He probably already knew what decision would be made, but he paid due respect to the victorious country and paid tribute to tradition.
At the end of the press release of the European Language Union, it is especially pointed out that the current victory of Ukraine will be reflected in the upcoming competition. This is something that the Eurovision organizer is obliged to take care of. It is his duty to the country that won the competition, despite Russian shelling, deaths and destruction. Eurovision was deprived of Ukraine by Russia, which started a senseless and brutal war. There is no place for this holiday in today's Russia. And no matter how much Russian propagandists and pseudo-patriots competed in sarcasm over the contest, Russia robbed itself. Eurovision was and remains a favorite contest of many Russians, and Moscow considered its success a matter of political prestige. Kalush Orchestra. Congratulations to the Ukrainians on the victory immediately British Defense Minister and Prime Minister Ben Wallace and Boris Johnson, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel.
