Romania will distribute iodine tablets to its citizens – Politico

The country fears a “nuclear incident” over the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Romanian authorities will distribute iodine tablets to everyone from mid-April citizens under the age of 40. Politico writes about it. The country will also launch a campaign to inform Romanians about taking iodine tablets in the event of a nuclear accident . All because of Russia's war against Ukraine.

“At the moment, there is no danger that would force us to take these pills,” – said in a statement the Romanian Ministry of Health.

A similar policy started earlier in Finland, Bulgaria and Belgium, according to Politico. Free iodine tablets have also been distributed there for some time. In the event of a nuclear accident, radioactive iodine is dispersed in the air. Our thyroid gland absorbs it, which leads to cancer. Iodine pills can reduce the risk of cancer.
