Radonitsa: how to properly remember the dead

On this day it is customary to visit the graves of the dead.

On May 3, Christians of the Eastern rite celebrate Radonitsa – the day commemoration of the dead. It is also popularly called Wires or Tombs . In the Christian calendar, it always falls on Tuesday, ie the ninth day after Easter.

It should be noted that in many regions of Ukraine the deceased are traditionally commemorated on the Saturday or Sunday before Radonitsa. On this day it is customary to go to the cemetery and visit the graves of the dead. But it is worth remembering that Ukraine is living in a full-scale Russian invasion, so the authorities of some regions of our country recommend refraining from hiking and traveling in the cemetery.

This day you need to visit the church. The first funeral liturgy after Easter is served on Radonitsa. You can submit notes with the names of the dead to be read in the church.

You can also order a memorial service. This should be done even if it is not possible to visit the temple on the holiday itself. Then it is better to go to church the day before.
