Putin's statement about ending mobilization is another farce: ISW explained why

The day before, the Kremlin dictator announced that mobilization measures in the Russian Federation would end in two weeks.

The announcement of partial mobilization in Russia caused sharp dissatisfaction and panic among the local population. Recently, Vladimir Putin said that since then about 220,000 reserves have been recruited into the army and there is no need for further replenishment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The dictator said that the mobilization measures will be completed “in about two weeks”, but almost immediately after that, the autumn conscription for military service will begin in Russia, so the need for them will disappear by itself. This is reported by experts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The day before, Putin told reporters that “nothing additional is planned” and that “partial mobilization is almost complete.” However, it should be remembered that on September 30 he announced the postponement of the autumn draft in Russia from October 1 to November 1. ISW experts believe that this is probably due to the overload of military personnel, who simply will not be able to engage in partial mobilization and conscription at the same time. Therefore, it is logical that Putin needs to suspend or stop partial mobilization in order to free up bureaucratic resources.

It is interesting that Putin ordered to call up 120 thousand men for the autumn cycle, which is 7 thousand less than in the fall of 2021. However, annexation of occupied Ukraine by Russia changes the calculation for conscripts. Russian legislation generally prohibits the sending of conscripts abroad. At the same time, the idea of the Kremlin dictator and his henchmen is to “fill up the holes” at the front at the expense of those mobilized without experience, until the fall conscripts undergo training and can replenish the troops in Ukraine.

Earlier it was reported that even the first casualties mobilized do not encourage Russians to protest, although faith in Putin has significantly shaken in recent months.
