“Putin is going crazy and bluffing, playing the nuclear card” — an American expert assessed the Russian president's threats

American intelligence is closely monitoring the potential movements of tactical nuclear weapons of the Russian Federation.

In a recent address to the Russian people, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, once again stated that “in the event of a threat to national security” he can use tactical nuclear weapons. However, in the West, most experts are inclined to the opinion that the head of the Kremlin is bluffing and playing the “nuclear card” due to impasse. This is the opinion of a senior researcher at the Eurasian Center of the Atlantic Council Brian Whitmore, who gave a comment to NB.

In the opinion of the expert, Ukraine and the world community should be guided by the data of American intelligence, which regularly provides the necessary information about movement of Russian weapons and potential threats of their use. Whitmore is confident that the US will do everything necessary to give early warning to allies about Putin's intentions.

The military expert noted that at this stage of the war, he does not see a real threat of the use of nuclear weapons by Russia.

“Putin is going crazy, and now he is bluffing, playing the nuclear card. This is already an old and run-of-the-mill record. The US must not back down. Nothing has changed in terms of the approach to Ukraine. Today's situation — despite Putin's saber rattling — is no different from yesterday's,” Whitmore said.

According to an employee of the Atlantic Council, the United States should continue to follow the policy of authorized disclosure of data in order to keep the world informed about possible threats. In addition, Whitmore stressed that the White House should send a backstage signal to Moscow warning against the use of nuclear weapons. He must give Putin a clear understanding that if the agreements are not fulfilled, NATO forces will completely destroy Russian soldiers in Ukraine.
