More than 25 countries have joined forces to support Ukrainian defense.
It has been a month since Russia invaded Ukraine and the war began to turn into confrontation. What Vladimir Putin called a “special military operation” and what Russian generals believed should have ended in a swift surrender of the Ukrainian army came to a standstill.
But how could a country with only 200,000 soldiers withstand a giant Russian army with more advanced weapons? According to Politico, much of the fierce Ukrainian resistance is based on the rapid flow of military donations from NATO and other Allies. More than 25 nations have joined forces to purchase and supply weapons to support Ukraine's defense. The United States has sent billions of dollars in missiles, ammunition and other equipment to the front. The EU has provided a € 500 million aid package to help arm Ukraine. And this is the first time in the history of the bloc from 27 countries. Even Germany and Finland violated their old policies, which forbade them to export weapons to combat zones.
At the same time, tens of thousands of soldiers were alerted and sent to NATO countries in Eastern Europe. Politico, based on official statements and media reports, as well as its own independent study, compiled a table of weapons that Ukraine has received from its donors since January. The publications acknowledge that the list is not exhaustive and focuses on lethal weapons and certain types of non-lethal materials. It does not take into account humanitarian aid or development funds for the same period.
