The country will strengthen border protection with Russia.
Poland decided to build a barrier on the border with < strong>Kaliningrad region of Russia. The construction of the fence will begin today, and fighters of engineering and sapper units are also involved in the work, said the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense, Mariusz Blaszczak.
“I have decided to take measures to increase security on the border of Poland with the Kaliningrad region by closing this border. Therefore, work on the construction of a temporary barrier on the border with the Kaliningrad region will begin today. We use the experience gained last year. There is no doubt that the temporary fence protected the Polish-Belarusian border. This made a hybrid attack from Belarusian territory impossible or significantly slowed it down,” Blaschak said.
According to him, this issue was discussed at a meeting of the Committee on Security and Defense.
“It is about coordinating the work of individual ministries responsible for the security of Poland. The result was a decision to start construction of a temporary fence on the border with the Kaliningrad Region,” Blaschak noted, adding that the fence will consist of three rows of barbed wire used by the military around the world, that is, three layers that will allow for the construction of a temporary fence, as it was on the Polish-Belarusian border.
“This barrier is two and a half meters high, three meters wide,” Blaszczak said.
“We are starting work immediately, today. We do not set deadlines. Polish sappers have relevant experience, which they gained a year ago, building such a wall on the border with Belarus,” he emphasized.
Also, according to him, work will be carried out in parallel to install devices that will allow electronic surveillance of the border with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation.
