The counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kharkiv Oblast and Kherson Oblast causes significant losses to the occupiers. But in order to deprive Russia of its ability to advance in the future, it is necessary to destroy as much of its equipment and manpower as possible before the final expulsion from Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Defense Aleksii Reznikovduring a speech at the Yalta European Strategy (YES) forum on September 10.
Reznikov emphasized that the desire to defeat the enemy as soon as possible is natural, but it is worth thinking strategically and thinking about the future.
“Our military says that it is very important before they run, to destroy the maximum number of them – their equipment, their personnel. Because if they are allowed to escape, they will gain strength and try to return after a couple of weeks or months. Our task is to weaken the Russian army through destruction,” explained the minister.
Reznikov recalled that in the first days of the Russian invasion, almost no one believed in Ukraine and predicted a quick defeat Instead, the Russian army was considered by many in the West to be almost invincible, although in reality this turned out to be nothing more than misleading misinformation.
