Criminals are offered a six-month contract and a monetary reward.
It is common knowledge that the Russian Federation has long been recruiting prisoners from prisons to participate in the war against Ukraine. Earlier, evidence appeared on the network that this is what the head of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin is doing, but now he has a “competitor”. As the “Important Histories” publication reports, employees of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation are also looking for mercenaries in the colonies.
Journalists, citing anonymous sources among relatives of prisoners in the Ryazan region and Stavropol regions, said that the Ministry of Defense of Russia has been recruiting mercenaries since at least the end of September. According to them, priority is given to “red” colonies, where, among others, former security forces are serving their sentences.
The interlocutors of the publication recalled that their relatives tried to be recruited into the “Storm” battalion by promising money and a contract for six months. The first mercenaries were transported from the above-mentioned regions on October 11.
According to the father of one of the convicts from the Ryazan correctional colony, after the visit of representatives of the Ministry of Defense, about 100 people agreed to go to war in Ukraine. After passing the test, 60 of them were selected. They have already written a request for pardon and signed a non-disclosure agreement.
Journalists note that there are at least two Storm groups connected to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The first is an assault battalion formed in the “LPR” in July 2022. The second is a detachment of volunteers from North Ossetia, which has been fighting in Ukraine for four months.
