Stories about biolaboratories in Ukraine and a global conspiracy against the Russian Federation no longer affect other members of the UN Security Council.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has repeatedly used UN Security Council meetings as a platform to promote false narratives and spread Kremlin propaganda for its own purposes. Constant accusations against Ukraine and the West, supported by conspiracy theories about the development of biological weapons and the desire to destroy the Russian state, do not inspire confidence in other members of the organization and are a waste of their time. This opinion was expressed by the US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield during a meeting of the Security Council on October 27, Ukrinform reports.
According to Greenfield, the international community is already tired of the constant manipulations of the Russians and does not believe their stories about biolaboratories in Ukraine and the “dirty bomb”.
“All that Russia is offering are outlandish conspiracy theories that are less credible today than when they were first brought to the attention of the Security Council six months ago. In particular, Ukraine is not engaged in the development of biological weapons, and the United States does not provide it with assistance in this. The claim of representatives of the Russian Federation that Ukrainian scientists allegedly use birds, bats and insects to spread infections in Russia is completely absurd. Such species, even if they could be used as weapons, would pose an equal threat to the European continent and to Ukraine itself,” the US representative said.
She recalled that it was Russia for a long time that supported the biological weapons program in violation of international law and has a well-documented history of using chemical weapons, as well as covering the regime of Syrian President Assad, who was also noted for similar actions.
