Museums of Venice send protective materials to save Ukrainian art

As part of the art initiative, the necessary materials to protect works from bombs, fire and moisture are sent to the Lviv National Art Gallery.

Venice's public museums send protective fabrics, foam panels and data loggers to track changes in humidity and temperature to the Lviv National Art Gallery. The donation is part of the delivery of Save Ukraine Art 22 – a network of private companies, government agencies and museums, which aims to establish a supply chain to deliver the necessary materials to save art from bombs, fire and moisture, writes The Art Newspaper .

Although the fiercest fighting is concentrated in eastern Ukraine, the Lviv Art Gallery, a network of 18 museums with a collection of 67,000 works, has hidden its works in case fighting breaks out. Many of them were temporarily housed in an unopened building [for safety reasons) where they are exposed to moisture and at risk of being bombed or burned.

The network was started by businessman Lucio Gomiero after the director of the main cultural gallery in late March of the capital of Ukraine Taras Wozniak asked for materials and equipment. The network has attracted dozens of partners and donors, including civic museums, the municipality of Venice, vendors working with events such as the Venice Biennale and the Ceccarelli Group, says Gomiero.
