Lithuania has called on the EU to impose sanctions on ROC Patriarch Kirill

The separation of the Lithuanian Orthodox Church from the Moscow Patriarchate is also being considered.

Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the European Union to impose sanctions against the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, who supported the Russian war against Ukraine. This was stated by the Minister of the Ministry Gabrielius Landsbergis in an interview with the local newspaper 15min.

“There is such a proposal. But consultations are still underway to reach a consensus, so there is no final answer whether sanctions will be imposed,” he said.

According to the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Patriarch Kirill instead of pastoral care is “the destruction of souls, supporting the war and all the horrors that are happening in Ukraine.”

Lithuania is also involved in consultations on the issue of separation Lithuanian Orthodox Church from the Moscow Patriarchate, but this, according to Landsbergis, is a matter of community self-determination.

It will be recalled that the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Churches have collected 427 signatures in an appeal to the Primates of the Eastern Churches regarding the trial of Patriarch Kirill in support of the war.
