Despite this, the incumbent president still has every chance to win in the first round.
Emmanuel Macron has every chance of winning the first round of presidential elections in France this month, but his advantage over the far-right candidate Marine Le Pen continues to wane. These are the results of a recent poll by Ipsos-Sopra Steria, a public opinion poll company. Meanwhile, on Saturday in Paris, the incumbent president held his first election meeting, which was attended by about thirty thousand of his fans, writes Le Figaro.
Macron's support was 26% after a half percent drop, while Le Pen was in second place with 21%, one point higher than the day before. According to an Ipsos poll, if both candidates made it to the second round, Macron would beat Le Pen 53-47%, Bloomberg reports.
The survey also showed that:
- The country's far-left candidate Jean-Luc Melanchon is in third place in the first round with 15.5%, which is half a point less than before.
- Far-right politician Eric Zemmour would have 11%.
- Valerie Pekress, representing Republicans, would have 9.5% unchanged.
Ipsos-Sopra Steria conducted an online survey of 1,963 adults from March 30 to April 2. We will remind, the first round of elections should take place on April 10, and the second – in two weeks.
Tens of thousands of fans came to cheer Macron
Tens of thousands of fans came to cheer Macron yesterday. The two-hour speech delivered by the candidate standing in the rostrum was optimistic:
“Do you hear the heat?” (…) I am happy to be with you today, (…) in the largest hall in Europe, “he said at the Defense Arena rostrum.
And his opponent Le Pen said in the Alsace market on Friday that she felt “hope” that the poll results were in her favor.

“We feel that there is a lot of dynamism on the ground, a hope that arose at the end of the campaign,” the candidate said during a visit to the Gagenau market (Lower Rhine), a week before the first round on April 10.
“What was announced as the mandatory re-election of Emmanuel Macron was fake news. It is possible to beat Emmanuel Macron and therefore radically change the policy for the country,” she added.
Le Pen's statements on Ukraine's membership in NATO
Recall that in December last year, the head of the French far-right party “National Union” said that NATO in its current form is not able to accept new members.
“To begin with, we need to withdraw Turkey from it,” Le Pen said, answering the question of whether Ukraine has the right to join NATO.
Recently, Macron said that, in his opinion, France and the EU should confront “geopolitical unrest, the return of empires to the world stage, as well as wars that could provoke world conflict.”
