Latvia plans to give up Russian gas next year

Amendments to the law that would renounce Russian gas will be submitted to parliament.

The Minister of Economy of Latvia Janis Wittenbergs stated that the country plans to abandon Russian gas . This could happen as early as January 1, 2023, according to the ERR.

Wittenbergs noted that this is a historic decision that will strengthen Latvia's energy security.

According to him, the amendments to the law, which provide for the abandonment of Russian gas, to represent the parliament.

“Latvia's first step is to agree with Finland and Estonia that Latvia will be able to receive additional gas from the Paldiski terminal until it builds its own gas terminal,” Wittenbergs said.
