North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said his country is prepared for any military confrontation with the United States and can mobilize its nuclear deterrent, Reuters reports.

“Our armed forces are thoroughly prepared to respond to any crisis, and our nation's nuclear military deterrent is also fully prepared to mobilize its absolute power correctly, accurately and quickly to accomplish its mission,” he said.

Kim made the remarks during a speech at an event marking the 69th anniversary of the armistice in the Korean War on July 27, after which the two Koreas are technically still at war, according to the official. The remarks came after officials in Seoul and Washington said Pyongyang had completed preparations for its first nuclear test since 2017.

In his speech, Kim said Washington was continuing “dangerous, illegal hostilities” with South Korea against the DPRK nearly 70 years after the war and sought to justify its behavior by “demonizing” the country.

North Korea has long accused the United States have a double standard on military activity and hostile policies towards Pyongyang, saying it is preventing the resumption of talks aimed at eliminating the country's nuclear and missile programs in exchange for easing sanctions.
