In two years, the number of people willing to migrate to the USA in Ukraine has decreased by four times – study

Among them, significantly less people want to migrate and the most mobile group – young people under 30 years old.

Willingness of Ukrainians to move to the USA or European countries of the Union in case of obtaining citizenship of these countries decreased four times in two years. Such data was published by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, comparing a survey in September 2022 with a similar survey in October 2020.

If in October 2020, 28% of all Ukrainian adults were ready to go live abroad, then in September 2022 the share of those willing to move to the US/EU decreased from 28% to 7%.

At the same time, the share of those who would not want to leave even in the case of obtaining US/EU citizenship without conditions increased from 69% to 91%.

At the same time, sociologists note that now close to 10% of adult Ukrainians are abroad as refugees.

“However, even if half of them would answer “yes” to this question (recent surveys of Ukrainian refugees show that, in fact, the majority still want to return home, that is, the answers “yes” would be, most likely, less than half), then the decrease in emigration attitudes would also be significant – from 28% to about 13%,” the study says.

At the same time, immigrant attitudes are the same in almost all regions of the country.

In particular, the desire to leave among young people has significantly decreased. Even if young people under 30 are more ready to migrate, in two years the share of those who would like to leave has decreased by 3.5 times.
