In two months, almost 2,000 cases of “discrediting” the army have been filed in Russia

In Russia, opened almost two thousand administrative cases for article on “discrediting” the armed forces of the Russian Federation. Despite the fact that the article was adopted only in March 2022, its application has become an all-Russian practice. It is noted that during the count, human rights activists collected data from the websites of courts, the system of DAS “Justice”, press releases of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as messages received by the hotline of the organization. Human rights activists ruled out duplicates.

It is estimated that 1933 cases were opened in Russia under “20.3.3 CPAP on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces.”

“Although the article was introduced only in March, its application it has already become an all-Russian practice: the police have not found “discrediting” only in Chechnya (strangely), Tyva and Magadan region, “human rights activists say.

In addition, the organization published a rating of “leading regions” by the number of open cases. It is noted that in the territory of the Russian-occupied Ukrainian Crimea, security forces opened 56 cases under the article on “discrediting” the Russian Armed Forces.

    The Russian Administrative Code introduced an article “on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces” a few days after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The article was also used against citizens who do not support Russia's military aggression.
