An exhibition showing war in the eyes of children and the “shocking” similarity between modern and historical paintings. It brings together Ukrainian children's drawings depicting the Russian invasion and Polish children's drawings created after the Second World War, writes The Art Newspaper.

The exhibition “Mother, I do not want war” – on display in 16 cities in Poland, including Warsaw and the border town of Przemyśl, the main port of arrival for Ukrainian refugees – emphasizes the shared experience of occupation, repression and resistance, as well as the unwavering belief in victory. The pictures are a moving testimony of the war, emphasizing its particularly brutal impact on the youngest members of society.

The performance is a joint initiative of the National Archives of Poland and the Ukrainian digital project “Mother, I see war”. Poland's National Archives holds more than 7,000 children's drawings from 1946, created as part of a post-war initiative aimed at enabling young Poles to process the trauma of the Nazi occupation.
