Prince Izyaslav's trident was found in Belarus

Izyaslav (981 – 1001) was one of the representatives of the Volodymyrovych dynasty. One of the legends says that during a quarrel between his father Volodymyr and his mother Rogneda, he rushed at his father with a sword.

During archaeological excavations a vessel with the image of the personal coat of arms of Prince Izyaslav was found in Belarus. It dates back to approximately the end of the 10th – the beginning of the 11th century. It is the first find of its kind on the territory of this country. The details were revealed by the founder of the “Old Minsk” museum, Hleb Lobadzenko.

Archaeologist and scientist Andriy Voytekhovich noted in the attached video commentary that it is about the birthmark of the son of Kyiv Prince Volodymyr Svyatoslavych and Rogneda.

Trying to explain the significance of the find for the Belarusian lands, the archaeologist noted:

“It is possible to postpone the date of joining this territory to the Polovtsy land. Until the time of Izyaslav, when Volodymyr sent them to their homeland. Maybe he got here. And here, as a sign of compensation for the fact that he was expelled from Kyiv, he was given this territory, which had already been included in the Polovtsy principality”.

Let us remind you that Izyaslav (981 – 1001) was one of the representatives of the Volodymyrovych dynasty, that is the name of Volodymyr Svyatoslavych's children from different wives. One of the legends says that during a quarrel between his father and his mother with Rogneda, he rushed at his father with a sword. At one time, he rebuilt the destroyed capital, Polotsk.

Found in the mid-50s of the last century, a seal attributed to Izyaslav is considered one of the oldest examples of writing in Eastern Europe. Its obverse features a trident with the inscription “ΝΖAC**OΖO”. Researchers assume that the full inscription is “ΝΖACΛΑOZO”, which indicates the name of the prince.
