Against the background of Russia's war against Ukraine Concerns about the prospect of deteriorating economic situation in the country have increased among Germans, according to DW. At the same time, in Germany the share of those who consider the government's reaction to Russia's full-scale invasion of the neighboring state is not tough enough has increased over the past month. This follows the results of the ARD-DeutschlandTREND poll published on April 7 by Infratest dimap on behalf of the German public law channel ARD and the newspaper Die Welt.

The highest percentage of those who support tougher measures against Russia, among voters of the opposition CDU/CSU bloc, as well as the Green Party, which is part of ruling coalition (53% and 50% respectively), and the lowest – among those who support the right-wing populist party “Alternative for Germany” – 25%.
Supporters of the ruling parties, the SPD, the FDP and the Greens, are unanimous on this issue. Among them, the share of those who consider the reaction of the German government to the Russian invasion sufficient is approximately equal to the share of those who support the strengthening of sanctions.
Sociologists also found out the attitude of the Germans to the prospect of imposing an embargo on the purchase of energy from Russia. The percentage of those who would approve of such an energy boycott has risen from 44% to 50% in Germany since March. At the same time, respondents who spoke in favor of such an event agree to put up with higher electricity prices or shortages. The share of those who do not approve of the refusal to purchase energy in Russia has fallen by three percentage points over the past month, but remains high: 42% of respondents believe so.
