The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China responded to the comments of the American official Kurt Campbell, the National Security Council coordinator for the Indo-Pacific region, that the country “overreacted” to Speaker Nancy Pelosi's trip to Taiwan earlier this month, according to China's Foreign Ministry.
< p>“It is obvious that the US is trying to defend what cannot be justified by applying gangster logic and acting like a bully,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said during a press conference.
Campbell said last week that “China has overreacted and its actions continue to be provocative, destabilizing and unprecedented.”
He added that China's recent actions “significantly contradict the goal of peace and stability” and are “part of a campaign of increased pressure on Taiwan.”
