“I said: everything is fine, there is a lot of work ahead. Life is getting longer”, – the Ukrainian fighter told how he lost his leg during the defense of Bucha

On March 3, a group of Ukrainian fighters was surrounded. A Russian shell flew into the complex where she was staying.

28-year-old fighter of the Kalinov battalion lost his leg under time of defense of Bucha. He told the Belarusian media Zerkalo about the consequences of the Russian shelling and his rehabilitation.

I knew that sooner or later full-scale hostilities would break out in Ukraine. I was preparing for them, so I had the feeling “Well, I said.”

My comrades and I traveled to the Kyiv region from day one, helping the guys who had insufficient defense.

The first serious collision took place on March 3 on the edge of Bucha. That's where I lost my leg.

At some point we were surrounded. A Russian shell flew into the complex where we were. The boys next to me fell: their legs were cut off. I was thrown forward. I was without a helmet, I don't know how anything came to my mind. I think I'm lucky.

I tried to get up, but I realized I couldn't. I look at my leg and it dangles on a piece of skin and tendons.

He crawled a few meters from where he flew. In parallel, the fragment fell into my left hand. Only a few fingers moved due to a nerve injury.

With his right hand, he put a tourniquet on his leg to stop the bleeding. A little later, one of the guys dragged me to a safer place.

When a person goes to war, he understands: this can happen. I decided: it's good that I lost only one leg – I will be able to move normally.

Honestly, the situation was not easy. It seemed to me that we would hardly be saved, and I even recorded a farewell video. I wanted to leave something in case my phone was found.

My relatives already know that I feel for them, why repeat it before I die?

I was focused on the fight. He fulfilled his task: he killed some of his opponents. You can, in principle, and know the honor.

I think if a person does not feel fear in such situations, perhaps something is wrong with him. But fear can be controlled, which I did. Why be afraid of death? Sooner or later it will happen to everyone. It is an honor for a man, a warrior, to die in battle. It would be much worse for me to die of some disease.

The next morning I learned that the boys had escaped. They held the defense for about 12 hours. Five people died that day.

It was an emotional moment for his wife. I reassured her: I said that everything was fine and that this was a standard situation. People live without legs.

For the first three days, the phantom pain seemed to bypass me, but then it started. I sat on morphine for about a month. The pain was so unbearable that I was injected with morphine 3-4 times a day. My leg hurt, which I don't have.

I understand that now I am a rather dubious warrior, but when a stump forms, I will be given a combat prosthesis. And if the war is not over by then, I will be able to take part in the fighting. And while I help guys with organizational processes, I share combat experience.

Alexei celebrated his birthday in the hospital a week after he lost his limb. Friends came to him, their faces were very tense. The birthday boy had to reassure them: “I said: everything is fine, there is a lot of work ahead. Life is getting longer. ”

Victory Day is still difficult to imagine. There is a lot of work ahead. When we liberate all the occupied territories, we will need to rebuild Ukraine, build a strong country that, if necessary, will be able to fight back against Russia's ambitions. And they in Russia, I think, will never disappear.
