How the labor market has changed: Europe is interested in Ukrainians, and in western Ukraine dictate conditions to workers

Ukraine risks losing millions of workers forever.

Almost 6 million people left Ukraine during the war , mostly of working age. And consciously or not, the host countries have done everything possible to keep Ukrainians with them. About this for ZN.UA writes Yulia Samaeva , editor of the economics department of ZN.UA in the text – “Let's let the Hetmans just go” .

“And if in the previous waves of migration it was about temporary employment, now the host countries have done everything to win the war for the people in the shortest possible time: visas for a year with the right to extend for another two years, automatic work permits, places in schools and Universities for our children, financial aid, etc., “the author notes.

According to her, non-classic” workers “went there:

  • 20% of those who left are entrepreneurs;
  • 10% are managers of either companies or large divisions;
  • 17% are qualified employees.

< p>So, almost half are people with successful career experience, language skills, money savings and the ability to adapt abroad as quickly as possible. Together with them went their children, the greatest asset of the country, which last year had the worst birth rate in ten years. If they do not return, we will not rebuild the country, no matter how much money they give us. And our GDP will not grow like crazy, because if you have a working population of only 10 million, you will not jump above your head, you will not even raise your head.

“Internal migrants, concentrated in western Ukraine, have changed significantly labor market – it became the employer's market for the first time in years. Now they are dictating the rules here, which usually almost immediately leads to lower wages. Remember how many people are already working without a salary, “the article reads.
