Germany is ready to temporarily decommission some coal-fired power plants in response to Russia's blackmail, which last week halved gas supplies to Germany . This was reported by Al Jazeera, citing Economy Minister Robert Habek.

In a speech to reporters, the official said that the German authorities plan to restore and continue the work of some coal-fired power plants to resist gas blackmail from Gazprom. Gabek stressed that he was aware of the environmental damage caused by coal-fired power plants, but considered their use in the short term to be the right solution for the country's energy stability.

gas blackmail of the Russian Federation was expressed by the press secretary of the Ministry of Economy Stefan Gaufe. He stressed that the use of coal-fired thermal power plants is expected no later than 2024, and the complete abandonment of this type of energy supply, as planned, will be carried out by 2030.

Gaufe noted that Germany currently has ten coal-fired power plants with a capacity of 4.3 gigawatts and six more with a capacity of 1.6 gigawatts. Also, if necessary, five TPP units with a capacity of 1.9 gigawatts can be used.
