G7 meeting and “Marshall Plan” for Ukraine

New sanctions against Russia will be discussed at the G7 summit.

The war in Ukraine will be one of the main topics. According to French President Emmanuel Macron, the meeting of leaders of the most economically powerful democracies will discuss measures to be taken “in connection with the war in Ukraine and its consequences in terms of food and energy security to respond to the challenges posed by with climate “.

Representatives of India, Senegal, Argentina, Indonesia, South Africa arrived in Germany. They are invited to discuss food issues and climate change.

The summit may be an analogue of the “Marshall Plan” for Ukraine. This was previously said by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who chairs the Group of Seven. “We will need many more billions of euros and dollars to rebuild – and it will take years. This can only be achieved by a united force,” the chancellor said.

It is expected that new sanctions against Russia will be discussed. One of the measures – a ban on Russian gold imports – has already been agreed by some G7 countries, as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on the opening day of the summit: Britain, the United States, Canada and Japan. The summit will last until June 28, after which most of its participants will move to Madrid for the NATO summit. Practical measures to support Ukraine from a military point of view will be discussed there.
